Guess who is back?

May 21, 2010

I have been really busy in the past year.

New job, new car and new everything! I will be back here more often and let you guys know what’s going on. As usual I will have some good stories to tell…

Stay tuned!

The days are getting longer, the sun is getting hotter…

Work? Still the same. Sometimes boring and sometimes really busy. I am always looking for new projects and other interesting activities but the problem is, they are hard to come by and sometimes the motivation lacks behind also. Are you feeling the same way?

Our new gaming website is going well and we’ve got four writers now including me. We are posting tons of news and some features as well as our weekly podcast. Have a look: lvl2gamer.com

Nothing else is really new besides that I am doing game club with the guys from Rebel FM which is really fun. Finished Bully this week and GUN is next. You should check out their podcast under my links section.

So that it guys, not much more going on. I am going for one or two posts a week here on my blog but doing daily stuff on lvl2 so check us out!

Have a good weekend everyone, enjoy Friday if you can. I will certainly try.

Everyone outhere who has a job and a hobby a passionate activity will get this right away. I work about 50 hours a week, commute another 15 hours and have a normal life with responsibilities…sound familiar? Well, my passion is gaming and I also write for a little site caller lvl2gamer which I love to do as I enjoy reading and writing about games as much as I love playing them. so here is my dilemma; what to prioritize when I get home…let’s see, we have bills, dinner, chores, games and freelancing…time? I have about 3 hours before I SHOULD got to bed, which I don’t because I need more time!

Sound familiar still?

So I get home, then I do the things I have to like eat and whatever else and then I have to decide between gaming or writing…or podcasting…or working out. Here is what I need, 5 proposals of how to get my free time perfectly utilized before I pass out…

Thoughts?

Easter Weekend!

April 12, 2009

Hey guys. So this is Easter. A long time ago the master bunny of the Easter gods came upon us and decided to hide a bunch of boiled eggs and paint them. This is the truth about Easter and you all should know it. Where are your eggs hidden???

Where have I been…?

April 8, 2009

I am very busy (and tired…) these days. Going to rest up for a long weekend and then do some quality posts…while I am gone, what are you guys up to???

There are times when I sit in my office chair staring at Outlook or a spreadsheet and think…is this really what I want to be doing with my time? The obvious answer is no. I would rather be perusing my hobbies or relaxing at home, well that doesn’t earn money so we cant do that. BUT, what if I could? What if I would make my hobby my profession? I think about and come to the same conclusion every time. I totally could become part of the video game industry going multiple routs.

There inst just the ever growing ‘video game journalism’. There is the operations side of a development studio, a finance side and a management or marketing aspect. The possibilities are wide open. Every firm or venture needs those things in order to function. In this case, develop the games, take care of the budget and finances, manage the business and the employees as well as market your product and legally back up your business. That’s pretty much how every business works, on a smaller or grand scale. Same concept. Always.

So why haven’t I pursued those options? I think the economy and the fact that I am procrastinating. Those things always get in the way these days. I totally want to get into my favorite industry and enjoy going to work every day. Not that I do not enjoy my job, I like my current position and it is a proper challenge but doing what you love is a different story. Many if not all people are in this situation, except for celebrities or athletes. Take some time to think about what you REALLY want to do and then put your mind to it. It is possible to get that dream job if you try.

So, what is your dream job?

What if?

What if all the April fools jokes were actually real? Your favorite websites shutting down, businesses closing and friends dying? April 1st is the day you wake up saying, oh man, what is it going to be this time? Will my desk be wrapped in cellophane or do I get a crazy assignment due by End-of-Day? Well today thankfully the only joke (update) was that we can wear casual dress for the remainder of this week and all of next. Not a joke.

How were your April fools days? Any good stories? I read some good stuff online but nothing hilarious…

Do you remember the original Wolfenstein 3D on the PC produced and published by id Software? You do? Well now you can download it from the app store in its entirety including all the levels, weapons and bosses. There are several different controls which all work well depending on your style. If you have played – and loved Wolfenstein on the PC then this is a must for you!

John Carmack has done a phenomenal job in using the iPhone’s tech to recreate this game 100% and it is more than enjoyable for a train ride or the waiting room at the doctors office, what’s better than shooting Nazis before your yearly checkup? That’s right – Nothing!

So go to your App store and download this 4.99 USD app as it is money well spend, if you need a refresher of what this shooter defining game looks like, then please see below!

OnLive -  the service everyone has been talking about since GDC (there is a post on my blog), has brought this bright idea to my head.

If cloud gaming is made possible via logging onto a massive server/gaming machine which shoots gameplay video back to your TV or PC according to your controller input why doesn’t a console maker such as SONY improve on their already existing remote play feature and adapt this idea and modify it for use on a personal level.

Look at it this way, players that own a PS3 and a PSP can already connect via ‘remote play’ and access the contents of their PS3 system including some already compatible games and all movies. Now if SONY was to develop software or brower plug-in that allows a user to log into their system remotely while out of town or on vacation using a PC, then the PS3 owner could remotely play the video games on their PS3 through the internet broadband connection on any PC since the only transmission is compressed input vs video output – NO rendering or calculations needed on the PC used.

In other words, should SONY beat Microsoft to the punch and use the cloud gaming concept on a user level who already own the server / super computer (e.g. OnLive)? This seems like an obvious money maker to me if SONY was to implement a one time charge of 4.99 to enable this feature? Or will Microsoft enable this on its Xbox first?

What are your Thoughts?

[UPDATE] Kotaku JUST reported that Sony Japan just patented the trademark ‘PSCloud’ – as if on Que with my earlier statement. As Kotaku noted in their piece, this could mean they never use it but want to reserve the right to go into this direction.

There comes the time of every weekend where you realize, this weekend is over and I have to dive back into the treacherous waters of the workweek once again which starts with a 5 am alarm tone for me. Then I know for sure, I have to do this damn thing all over again. How do I deal with it? I just take it as it goes, take a nap on the train ride into the city of skyscrapers and suit wearing white gray heard men and grab my morning coffee to spice it up a little. Then come into the office, 7:30 am and turn on the computer, check my useless emails and notices I received just to hit delete or archive them and so forth…

Many poeple deal with this issue every week and it is the little things such as getting your favorite coffee or listening to your favorite podcast on the ride in, how do you guys deal with Mondays?
